How we classify, rate and present each of the 26 news sources in the aggregator, and where every one of them sits on the bias scale.
Classification methodology
Every source in Clear Cut Coverage is independently evaluated before inclusion. Our bias ratings synthesize multiple data points to produce a consistent, defensible classification.

Editorial stance analysis
We review each outlet's editorial board positions, op-ed slant, and recurring themes in opinion content to determine their general political orientation.

AllSides ratings
We cross-reference classifications from AllSides, which uses blind bias surveys, editorial reviews, and community feedback to rate media bias from Left to Right.

Media Bias/Fact Check
We consult Media Bias/Fact Check (MBFC) for additional data on each source's factual reporting record, bias direction, and overall credibility score.

Historical editorial positions
We examine patterns in story selection, headline framing, and source usage over time to capture a publication's demonstrated lean, not just isolated articles.
These inputs are combined into a single composite bias score on a scale from −2.0 (Far Left) to +2.0 (Far Right), with 0 representing a neutral, centrist position.
Bias scale
Each source receives a numeric bias score and a corresponding lean label. The rule below runs from −2 to +2; each source is placed at its score, and the coloured segments show the range each group spans.

Bias is nuanced and can shift over time. If you believe a source should be reclassified or re-scored, we welcome your input: reach out through our contact page and make your case. We review suggestions quarterly and update ratings when the evidence supports a change.
