How Clear Cut Coverage works

Who runs this site

Clear Cut Coverage is built and run by Anthony Bahn, an independent developer. It is not funded by, affiliated with, or advised by any news organization, political party, campaign, or advocacy group.

The site is self-funded and currently carries no advertising and sells no data. Advertising may be added in the future. If it is, ads will be clearly labelled as ads, kept separate from headlines, and designed not to interrupt reading. Advertisers will have no say in which outlets are included or how they are labelled.

What we publish

Clear Cut Coverage is an aggregator. We publish headlines exactly as their publishers wrote them, with a link to the original article, grouped by the political lean of the outlet. We do not write, edit, shorten, or reword headlines, and we do not publish article text.

Story pages group headlines that our software judges to be about the same event. That grouping is automatic and can be wrong; see Corrections.

Optional neutral summaries are generated by an AI model from the headlines in a story and are labelled as such. They are a reading aid, not reporting.

How sources are chosen

We aim for a roughly equal number of liberal-leaning, neutral, and conservative-leaning outlets, and for each side to contribute a similar volume of headlines each day. Our software enforces the volume balance automatically.

An outlet is considered when it publishes original political news daily, names its editors publicly, maintains its own corrections policy, and offers a working news feed. We do not include sites that mainly republish other outlets’ work, and sites the rating services below flag as unreliable.

How lean is labelled

Each outlet's lean is assigned at the outlet level, not per article. We cross-check against AllSides, Ad Fontes Media, and Media Bias/Fact Check and review the labels every quarter. A headline appears in the liberal, neutral, or conservative column because of where its publisher sits, not because of what the headline says.

Lean ratings are an editorial judgement and reasonable people disagree with them. If you think one is wrong, tell us; we publish changes in the log below.

What we don't do

• We do not rank or hide headlines by popularity, engagement, or our own opinion. Within a column, newest comes first.
• We do not editorialise. Nothing on the site is written by us except this policy, the About page, and interface text.
• We do not track readers across sites, sell data, or run targeted advertising. See the privacy policy.
• We do not accept payment for placement or inclusion.

Corrections and complaints

If a headline is attributed to the wrong outlet, grouped with the wrong story, labelled with the wrong lean, or links to the wrong page, email anthony@clearcutcoverage.com or use the contact form with the story link. We aim to respond within two working days and to fix confirmed errors within 24 hours of confirming them.

Corrections to a headline's text are the publisher's to make; we show whatever their feed currently carries and refresh it every 15 minutes.

Requests to remove an outlet, or to add one, are reviewed every quarter against the criteria above.
